About The Position

This position provides technical support for ocean salmon managers who represent Oregon in the Pacific Salmon Commission (PSC) and the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) management processes. The role involves appointment to several technical committees and work groups where the individual will compile and submit Oregon-based inputs for evaluating data on salmon stock distributions, contributions to fisheries, fleet dynamics, mortality rates, and other population dynamics. The position requires frequent travel, primarily within the U.S. and occasionally internationally.

Requirements

Option 1: Six years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a fish or wildlife program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities.
Option 2: A Bachelor's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Bachelor's degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework, AND three years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a fish or wildlife program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities.

Nice To Haves

Experience with salmon biology, stock trends, and factors that affect survival and abundance.
Experience working with large datasets, running harvest models, and producing clear analytical results.
Experience with PSC, PFMC, other regional or tribal management organizations supporting sustainable pacific salmon harvest , and related technical committees addressing biological, cultural, and socio-economic impacts to salmon populations in the Pacific Northwest.
Experience writing reports, summaries, and explanations of complex fishery information for different audiences.
Experience working with agencies, tribes, organizations, and the public; supporting outreach and meetings.
Experience tracking fishery data, reviewing analyses, and preparing annual salmon return summaries.
Experience organizing work groups, planning projects, and participating in agency and committee meetings.

Responsibilities

Represent ODFW on salmon committees and work groups
Provide technical support for salmon fishery management
Work with ocean fishers, agencies, organizations, and the public to explain salmon issues and regulations.
