About The Position

The Program Aide will assist the institute with supporting research projects through design, completion, analysis, and interpretation across multiple projects and programs at Fort Sill. They work under general supervision and perform semi-skilled, technical support research work requiring modification and adaptation to routine procedures. This position is funded by a Federal grant and is therefore contingent upon the availability of funds.

Requirements

  • Experience or coursework in wildlife biology or a closely related field.
  • Experience in scientific data collection and entry with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in GPS data collection.
  • Some experience in analyzing data and writing reports.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups.
  • Flexibility to changes in protocol or job assignments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read maps, plans, and navigate roads and wilderness.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and rough terrain for long hours or outside normal business hours.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and pass security background check to gain access to an active military installation.
  • Must be able to travel from off-base housing to base.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to work independently and as a team to complete tasks under various weather conditions.
  • Conduct Black-capped Vireo territory mapping, nest searches, and monitoring nest success.
  • Conduct passive bat acoustic surveys using Song Meter Mini Bat Ultrasonic Recorders or similar equipment.
  • Conduct Brown-headed Cowbird trapping.
  • Utilize ArcGIS software and Field Maps, or other software to collect data and navigate.
  • Download, sort, and analyze data for rare species surveys, as well as report writing.
  • Maintenance of field equipment, data entry, and other tasks depending on qualifications and skills.
