About The Position

Responsible for aiding the supervision and direction of the educational, recreational, and developmental programs at The Salvation Army Youth Center.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (significant experience may be considered in lieu of).
  • Passion to work with school-aged children.
  • Willingness to demonstrate sound moral principles and leadership qualities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
  • Close attention to detail and a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to multi-task several projects concurrently.
  • Interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Ability to establish and implement policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email and MS Office applications.
  • Must adhere to all policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to travel to meet the needs of the position.
  • A valid MVR is required.

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years of experience working with youth is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the overall administrative components of the Youth Center, including routine typing, filing, transcribing program communications, preparing materials for workshops and meetings, and assisting the Youth Director with program duties.
  • Assist in the overall operation of the Youth Center, including supervision of after-school children in daily activities (homework, tutoring, crafts, computer stations), room preparations, scheduling activities, meal preparation and clean-up, recreation activities, supervision of camper arrival and departure, preparation for visits by special guests, and assisting with statistics and reporting.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of individual students by understanding their needs, helping them experience success, meeting and exceeding personal learning and achievement goals, and closely following Safe from Harm Guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Successfully satisfy the training requirements associated with the position and as required by The Salvation Army.
