About The Position

The Revenue Administration Division ensures fair, effective and efficient administration of tax and regulatory programs. It offers policy and information in respect to federal-provincial-territorial tax administration relations. It participates on a number of inter-jurisdictional committees on issues of common interest and works in close collaboration with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The division consists of the Research and Tax Administration Policy Branch, the Account Management Branch and the Audit and Investigation Services Branch.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Economics, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field, and a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience; OR A related College diploma, and a minimum of five (5) years of related work experience.
  • Written and spoken competence at the Intermediate plus proficiency level in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

Responsibilities

  • Providing sound interpretation and advice of administered acts and regulations such as Gasoline and Motive Fuel Tax Act, Harmonized Sales Tax Act, Tobacco Tax Act, etc. to Revenue and Taxation staff, other government departments, and to the general public.
  • Providing sound recommendations while balancing unique needs of the taxpayer and their right to objective and fair treatment.
  • Providing timely input, assistance and coordination in the development of existing legislation including advice and review of legislative proposals and administrative policy initiatives.
  • Providing input in the development of information materials for legislative and policy interpretations, and operational procedures.
  • Participating in the development of clear program related information such as applications, instructional guides or pamphlets, procedures and manuals.
  • Maintaining online information which includes updating online forms, manuals, guides and notices.
  • Consulting regularly with Revenue Administration staff, other jurisdictions and stakeholders for the purpose of tax application & program guideline.
  • Conducting in depth research and analysis of tax application rulings and interpretations.
  • Using established research methods to gather information and prepare files for audit referrals.
  • Coordinating, retrieving and submitting data pertaining to gasoline and motive fuel sales and consumption in New Brunswick.
  • Gathering and verifying allocation and refund data to ensure balance across systems.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
