About The Position

This role is ideal for a professional dedicated to advancing the Town's environmental and sustainability objectives through the development and evaluation of waste diversion, recycling, and resource management programs. Reporting to the Manager, Solid Waste & Stormwater, you will provide essential oversight of program outcomes, data analytics, and public education initiatives that align with the Town’s Zero Waste Framework and Sustainability Plan. Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Environmental Studies, Resource Management, Waste Management, Civil Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in waste management, recycling, or environmental program coordination.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of solid waste management principles and sustainable resource recovery practices.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to track departmental performance and diversion metrics.
  • Excellent project coordination and program management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills to prepare educational materials, technical reports, and community outreach content.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with databases or reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, and professionalism when addressing community feedback or program concerns.
  • Ability to troubleshoot operational challenges and propose practical solutions.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within a municipal or public sector organization.
  • Familiarity with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs or Zero Waste frameworks.
  • HHW Certification.
  • Canadian Environmental Professional (CEP) designation.
  • Membership with the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA).
  • ATIA & PPA certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, develop, and evaluate waste reduction and diversion programs.
  • Support the implementation and compliance tracking of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze departmental data related to waste diversion and Eco Centre operations to inform decision-making.
  • Prepare technical reports, performance summaries, and presentations for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement public education campaigns and engagement activities to promote recycling participation.
  • Monitor vendor contracts and service agreements to ensure deliverables meet quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to maintain accurate content for outreach materials and social media.
  • Provide project support for stormwater, source water protection, and watershed health initiatives.
  • Support Eco Centre operations and special waste collection events, including volunteer coordination.

Benefits

  • The salary for this position is between $52.36/hr and $57.47/hr and is based on a 35-hour work week.
