About The Position

The Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department is responsible for building a healthy, inclusive and vibrant City, as well as ensuring that communities, residents and visitors have access to the recreation and cultural places, programs, events and services that allow them to experience all the benefits the City has to offer, and overseeing Buildings and Facilities Management for improved service delivery integration, ensuring the best possible client experience in City facilities. You are responsible for the design, development, execution, and evaluation of an arts program, which involves theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, media arts, and/or arts education at multiple facilities/venues. You secure and allocate resource materials, program venues, staff, volunteers, artists, and equipment. You also hire and supervise arts instructors or related program staff, create partnerships, and secure grants, sponsorship and/or marketing.

Requirements

• College or university student enrolled and/or practicing in theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, media arts.
• Minimum 2 years of practicing and/or teaching experience in related discipline.
• Technical skills and training required to safely use specialized equipment (e.g., pottery kilns, wheels, lighting, sets).
• Previous experience working with children in a recreation setting, arts centre or event.
• Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates.
• AODA Customer Service/IASR Training.
• Excellent knowledge of community centres.
• Knowledge of interpretive techniques in related disciplines.
• Strong knowledge of developing training program for instructors and/or volunteers.
• Program design, development and evaluation.
• Project management practices.
• Performs work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all City of Ottawa corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
• Completion of health and safety training required by legislation and by the Corporation of the City of Ottawa.
• Very good oral and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong knowledge with area of training and/or instruction.
• Sensitive to the needs of various ages groups and their learning ability.
• Strong knowledge and experience using program specific tools and equipment.
• Flexibility and ability to work with diverse groups.
• Excellent research, writing, and interpersonal skills.

• Various language requirements (English only, French only, or Bilingual competencies may be required).
• Successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) or Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (Level 2) check if under 18.
