About The Position

The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering year-round part-time employment opportunities for individuals passionate about working with people with disabilities. Disability Services supports participants in various programs including childcare, classes, special events, and recreation activities. These roles are crucial for ensuring people with disabilities can participate in these activities, as mandated by Title II of the ADA. Work schedules vary, with childcare programs typically running on weekdays and classes/events often occurring in the evenings and weekends. Program locations and assignments may change. Successful candidates will actively participate in activities, assist with adaptations, facilitate social interaction, communicate effectively, provide excellent customer service, and maintain confidentiality. Experience in recreation programs, childcare, education, or supporting individuals with disabilities is ideal. Starting positions and pay rates depend on age and experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum age 16 (Inclusion Aide).
  • Minimum age 18 (Inclusion Support Staff I).
  • Minimum age 19 (Inclusion Support Staff II).
  • Must have a desire and interest in working with people with disabilities (Inclusion Aide).
  • Requires high school diploma and one year experience working with persons with disabilities or two or more years of work-related disability experience (Inclusion Support Staff I).
  • Requires two years of college in related field and one year experience working with persons with disabilities or four or more years of related disability experience (Inclusion Support Staff II).
  • Requires four years of college in a related field or two years of college plus three years of experience working with persons with disabilities or six or more years of related disability experience (Inclusion Support Staff III).
  • All selected candidates must provide excellent customer service.
  • Must maintain confidentiality regarding disability, medical, and personal information.
  • Willingness to actively participate in all program activities.
  • Willingness to assist with the adaptation of activities.
  • Willingness to help facilitate social interaction between participants.
  • Effectively communicating with supervisors, staff, participants, and parents/guardians is extremely important.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to individuals with disabilities to be included in general recreational programs with their peers.
  • Actively participate in all program activities.
  • Assist with the adaptation of activities.
  • Help facilitate social interaction between participants.
  • Advocate for the full inclusion of participants within the program.
  • Maintain documentation and implement behavior plans as needed (Inclusion Support Staff II & III).
  • Assist in development of behavior management plans; implement behavior management plans and provide documentation as required (Inclusion Support Staff III).
  • Conduct sensitivity awareness activities and training on site as required (Inclusion Support Staff III).
