About The Position

Emerson is seeking a Prognostics Engineer to build experience and drive the development of new technologies. This role will oversee the entire lifecycle of diagnostic and prognostic health monitoring technology for equipment used in the process control industry. The focus will be on implementing and supporting physics and data-driven predictive models, and extending algorithms to new applications and use cases. The ideal candidate will have a customer-first mindset, a strong understanding of data analysis and algorithm development, hands-on laboratory investigation skills, and the ability to communicate results effectively both verbally and in writing. A key function of this role is to collaborate closely with marketing, advanced technology, and software program teams to manage multi-location engineering collaboration for prognostics development activities. The engineer will identify creative and unique methodologies to accelerate hardware, sensor, and analytics development and testing to meet and exceed customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics or in any applicable field.
  • 5+ years relevant industry experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with developing and applying prognostic algorithms and models for complex systems and components.
  • Familiarity with various prognostics and diagnostics approaches, such as physics-based, data-driven, and hybrid.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse global work groups
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills for investigating complex technical problems
  • Ability to create and validate dynamic models of physical systems using tools such as MATLAB and Simulink
  • Experience with engineering and signal processing development tools
  • Knowledge of machine learning, data science, and statistical methods
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems, sensors, and diagnostics

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy prognostic and advanced diagnostic algorithms for industrial control valves and associated equipment
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of Engineers, Data Scientists, SMEs and Collaborators to create and integrate prognostics solutions into systems
  • Analyze and interpret data from sensors, diagnostics, and maintenance records to identify failure modes, trends, and anomalies
  • Create algorithms to detect fault conditions and figure out remaining useful life (RUL) of the system based on sensor data, failure modes, and degradation models
  • Determine the optimal type, number, and location of sensors for the system based on the prognostic objectives, performance criteria, and constraints
  • Create clear, concise, and verifiable engineering requirement documents and engineering plans to achieve project goals
