The Professor is expected to sustain a productive and healthy laboratory environment in their area of research interest. Because this individual will be responsible for the overall success of the lab, they should be familiar with all lab techniques, have outstanding written and oral communication skills, and provide strong mentoring and support for junior scientists (technicians, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, etc.). The professor oversees the entire scientific process, from experimental design to interpretation and publication. Ideally, the Professor will also contribute to the scientific mission of the Cancer Center, through service on committees and other leadership opportunities. Ultimately, the Professor is expected to sustain a world-class, independently funded research lab. Professors are generally promoted following a successful review from the institutional Appointments and Promotions Committee at the Associate Professor level, and reflects the highest rank of faculty within the Center. In some cases, recruits from institutions other than Fox Chase may be brought in at a Professor level. All Professors are expected to be well-published independent scientists in a particular discipline of interest to FCCC and with a strong track record of creative, independent and funded research.
