About The Position

The University of Pittsburgh Physicians Heart and Vascular Institute and the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine are recruiting a cardiac surgeon to join their expanding team. The successful candidate will practice as a cardiac surgeon in a dual capacity within the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) and the University of Pittsburgh Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, encompassing clinical, research, and teaching responsibilities. They will participate in outreach efforts for the HVI, expanding inpatient and outpatient activities at locations within the HVI service area. As a faculty member, the successful candidate will actively participate in the research and educational mission of the HVI and Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Faculty positions at various levels in the non-tenure/tenure stream/tenure track are available at the University of Pittsburgh, with rank and salary commensurate with experience and academic credentials.

Requirements

• Pennsylvania medical license
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Demonstrated excellent clinic outcomes
• Experience as a teacher or mentor of medical students and residents
• Hold doctoral level education in the field of medicine (MD, DO)
• Qualified for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
• Completed necessary training related to Cardiothoracic specialty to provide clinical service
• Applicants for Assistant Professor should have three or more years of experience and should demonstrate teaching ability, experience in advanced study and research, or professional experience of a kind which would enable them to make an academic contribution.
• Applicants for Associate Professor should have five or more years of experience and have strong experience with an impactful scholarship, a local, regional, and developing national reputation, effectiveness as a teacher, and service.
• Applicants for Professor will have served five to seven years as Associate Professor and should have attained superior stature in their field through scholarship, professional practice, and leadership in professional and learned organizations.

Responsibilities

• Practice as a cardiac surgeon in a dual capacity within the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) and the University of Pittsburgh Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
