About The Position

The University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy, Clinical Practice, Innovation and Research (CliPIR) Division invites applications for one 12-month position at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor with tenure. The faculty member will join a division whose mission is to promote pharmacists’ roles in high-quality, safe, and effective medication use through interdisciplinary research and education. The faculty member will be responsible for developing an independent research program. The faculty member will have responsibility for teaching Pharm.D. students in the professional program related to their areas of expertise. PharmD teaching topics may include provision and payment of health services, health communication, pharmacy management, medication safety, and/or quality improvement, pharmacy law, and ethics, and the opportunity to contribute to elective pharmacy courses. The faculty member will contribute to the Health Services Research in Pharmacy (HSRP) graduate program with responsibility for graduate student mentorship, teaching, and collaborative scholarship. They will also participate in service to the school, university, and/or profession. Applicants for this position will be considered for all three professor titles. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. Level and pay are commensurate with experience. The anticipated start date merely reflects the earliest possible start date. New hires may begin on a date later than the one listed. This position is part of the Wisconsin Research, Innovation and Scholarly Excellence (RISE) Initiative. Through accelerated and strategic faculty hiring, research infrastructure enhancement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and increased student and educational opportunities, RISE addresses complex societal challenges of importance to the state, nation and world. Building on UW–Madison’s strengths, RISE expands the University’s successful track record of connecting with communities and industry on collaborative solutions. Over the next three academic years, UW–Madison will substantially increase current hiring levels, bringing 150 new RISE faculty to campus. Candidates hired through RISE will join a community of scholars working across disciplines, schools and colleges on research, teaching and outreach endeavors. The community will engage regularly in venues such as seminar series and colloquia to share ongoing projects and identify opportunities to work together. The University will support the community, facilitating access to research infrastructure, and funding to support broad and rich collaboration. Requirements

  • Candidates at the assistant professor level are expected to demonstrate potential for establishing an independent and externally funded research program and teaching at the PharmD and graduate student level.
  • Candidates at the associate or full professor level are required to have demonstrated sustained extramural grant support, as well as research, scholarship, and teaching proficiency that meet the criteria for tenure and rank at University of Wisconsin-Madison and UW School of Pharmacy.

  • A background in pharmacy practice is desirable but not required.
  • Demonstrated mentoring of underrepresented scholars
  • Proven ability to establish public and private sector research partnerships to implement existing or new innovations that advance and demonstrate the value of pharmacy practice
  • Experience with innovation co-design especially with underserved populations.
  • A history of successful internal and external grant submissions or grant writing experience
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective team skills
  • The ability to effectively interact with other academic departments or schools with whom we have active collaborations, such as the School of Medicine and Public Health, Nursing, and Industrial & Systems Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Advancing the research and scholarship mission of the School of Pharmacy by developing an independent and externally funded research program in an area of expertise as well as establishing collaborations leading to a sustained program of publishable scholarly work.
  • Teaching in the School’s Health Services Research in Pharmacy (HSRP) graduate program.
  • Teaching in the School’s Doctor of Pharmacy program.
  • Mentoring graduate students in the School’s Health Services Research in Pharmacy (HSRP) graduate program.
  • Serving as a member of school and/or university committees, and/or professional organizations.
