Bridge (ESL, HSE, HSD, ABE, & EAP) Professor (1-year termed position)
About The Position
This is a 1-year termed full-time faculty position beginning in July 2026 with a 30-credit hour (170-day contract) teaching load annually. The successful candidate will support the planning, coordination, and continuous improvement of Bridge courses, including English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE), Adult High School Diploma (AHSD), and English for Academic Purposes (EAP), along with related transition/pathway courses. The role emphasizes student access, retention, persistence, and successful progression through Bridge programs, while also strengthening connections to college, career, and community pathways. This position will also support the development of career-connected Bridge courses based on local workforce needs. The role may involve teaching at night, on weekends, online, and at multiple campus locations. Faculty are expected to teach their assigned course load, evaluate courses, assess student learning, meet outcomes, comply with guidelines, maintain office hours, develop rapport with students, and assist with advising, orientation, and registration. CMC Faculty are also expected to engage in scholarly endeavors and service activities such as committee work, project participation, peer mentoring, assessment activities, program review, student organizations, and recruiting/retention efforts.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in TESOL, Linguistics, English, Adult Education, Developmental Education, Education, or other degree with 18 graduate credits in TESOL required.
- Adult Basic Education Authorization (ABEA) required, or willingness to obtain within three years.
- Minimum of one-year, full-time teaching experience or the equivalent as an adjunct faculty member.
- Higher education teaching experience required.
- Knowledge of a language other than English required.
- Experience in a variety of teaching delivery modes including online required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Flexibility and collegiality are essential.
- Experience in a various instructional modalities using a learning management system (LMS) like Canvas.
- Demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with students, employees, and community members of all backgrounds.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities required.

Responsibilities
- Teach course-load as assigned
- Evaluate courses and assess student learning

- Modify, develop, and maintain curriculum
- Assist with assessment activities (e.g., develop learning outcomes and assessment projects for courses, disciplines, and programs)
- Assist with program review
- Advise student organizations
- Participate in recruiting/retention activities
- Attend and participate in program, discipline, in-service, and campus meetings
- Develop promotion portfolio
- Participate in community service activities (as appropriate)
- Cooperate with other program faculty
- Work with Student Services personnel in advisement of students
- Work cooperatively with Academic Services, Student Services, and Administrative Services personnel
- Supervise staff positions and/or student employees (may be required)
