About The Position

The Department of Management in the Phillips School of Business at High Point University is seeking a Professor of the Practice of Healthcare Management and Director of the Healthcare Management Program. This non-tenure track position involves academic and strategic leadership for undergraduate Healthcare Management major and minor programs. The role includes overseeing curriculum development and assessment, advising students, collaborating with faculty and university partners, and building relationships with healthcare organizations. A key focus will be on developing experiential learning opportunities such as internships, partnerships, site visits, and applied projects. The Director will also support student recruitment and retention, promote the program, monitor industry trends, and identify opportunities to enhance the program's reputation and prepare graduates for healthcare management careers. Additionally, the successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in healthcare management, healthcare funding, human resource management in healthcare, healthcare management strategy, healthcare leadership, and other business areas as needed. Responsibilities also include student advising, curriculum development, service to the school and university, and scholarly research.

Requirements

• An earned master’s degree in healthcare management, business administration, management, or a closely related field.
• At least 18 graduate credit hours closely related to healthcare, business management, leadership, organizational behavior, or a related field.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage in service activities within the university and professional community.

Nice To Haves

• An earned doctoral degree (Ph.D. or DBA) in management, business administration, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is preferred, although ABD candidates will be considered.
• Teaching experience at the university level is highly preferred.
• A minimum of 7 years of healthcare industry experience.
• A minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership position.
• Experience with online and hybrid teaching modalities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
• Healthcare professionals with experience in supply chain management.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight for the undergraduate Healthcare management major and minor, including curriculum development, program assessment, students’ recruitment and retention, and continued program growth.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with healthcare organizations to create meaningful experiential learning opportunities, including internships, applied projects, site visits, and engagement with healthcare industry leaders.
• Teach courses in healthcare management, healthcare delivery systems, healthcare funding, human resource management in healthcare, healthcare management strategy, and healthcare leadership.
• Engage in high-quality research that informs teaching and supports continued knowledge of emerging ideas and developments in healthcare management.
• Develop and update course materials to enhance student learning.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.
• Collaborate with colleagues on research and academic initiatives.
• Serve on department, school, and university committees and participate in professional or governmental organizations as appointed by Department Chair and/or Associate Dean.
• Abide by University and School of Business policies.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Associate Dean.
