About The Position

This position is for a full-time faculty member in the Department of Medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The role involves a significant commitment to clinical care, teaching, and educational activities, as well as contributing to scholarly endeavors. The position is on-site only and requires participation in departmental and medical school activities as a Clinician Teacher. The incumbent will focus on the provision, advancement, and promotion of excellence in clinical care and teaching. The SIU Department of Medicine is dedicated to providing high-quality medical education across various levels, including medical school, residency, fellowship, continuing education, and faculty development.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited medical school program.
  • Graduate of formal specialty training program in Nephrology.
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine or eligibility for ABIM.
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Nephrology or eligibility for Nephrology Board.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois or Licensed by the State of Illinois prior to employment.
  • Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.

  • Experience working in an academic environment, both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assume other divisional and departmental administrative responsibility as directed by the Division Chief.
  • Teach, mentor, and supervise individual students and residents during in-patient and out-patient consultations and follow-up visits.
  • Prepare lectures, seminars and rounds for students taking the Nephrology elective.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, conferences and rounds for resident house staff, medical students and other learners in the Department of Medicine and other departments.
  • Provide periodic seminars/educational sessions for the division.
  • Prepare conferences for the Department of Medicine.
  • Provide lectures and conferences at hospitals in communities of Central and Southern Illinois.
  • Complete inpatient and outpatient consultations requested by full-time SIU clinical faculty, house staff and community physicians.
  • Develop and maintain professional practice in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Achieve a minimum target of 7,205 RVUs per year.
  • Providing dialysis outreach to affiliated practices throughout central and southern Illinois.
  • Provide inpatient consultation at St. John’s Hospital and Memorial Medical Center in Springfield and including a proportional number of on call weeks split between nephrology members.
  • Provide outpatient service at the nephrology main clinic location in Springfield and affiliated outreach practice locations throughout central and southern Illinois.
  • Participate in University, SIU HC and hospital committees as requested.
