About The Position

The Department of Biomedical Data Science (DBDS) at the Stanford University School of Medicine (SoM) invites applications for an open-rank faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the University Tenure Line (UTL). We are particularly interested in candidates who develop and apply novel artificial intelligence (AI) and biomedical data science methodologies to advance biomedical discovery and improve clinical care. Stanford Medicine is a recognized leader in biomedical AI, with major institutional investments to integrate AI efforts across its clinical care, research, and education missions. Building on this momentum, DBDS seeks to recruit faculty who not only apply AI to important biomedical problems but also innovate on the underlying methods that drive the field forward. Areas of interest include large-scale biomedical data science and biostatistical analysis of multimodal patient research data, including clinical records, imaging, genomics, pathology, and physiologic signals; trustworthy, reproducible, explainable, and sustainable AI; health data cybersecurity and privacy; prospective trials and real-world evaluation of AI systems; human–AI interaction and human–computer teaming; AI-enabled biosensors for continuous health monitoring; world models, simulations, and digital twins; lab-in-the-loop approaches that connect computational models with iterative experimentation; AI for drug design, therapeutic development, and scientific discovery; and generative AI and synthetic data for simulation, privacy preservation, model development, and evaluation. DBDS offers a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, with strong connections across Stanford University and its affiliated research institutes and health systems. Faculty recruited through this search will join a vibrant intellectual community and are expected to contribute to research, education, and, where applicable, clinical activities. The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching. Faculty line and rank will be determined by qualifications and experience.

  • PhD with substantial expertise related to biomedical data science and AI.
  • Demonstrate the potential to achieve, or have a demonstrated record of, excellence in rigorous and impactful research.

  • Establish or lead an independent research program that advances AI methodology and its application to biomedical and clinical sciences.
  • Teach and mentor students, postdoctoral fellows, and trainees.
  • Participate in the broader educational mission of the department.
  • Contribute to research, education, and, where applicable, clinical activities.
