About The Position

Furman University's Business and Accounting Department is seeking a tenure-track Accounting Professor. This is one of three new faculty positions and begins August 1, 2027. The role is ideal for someone interested in accounting education within a liberal arts setting. The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate level, mentor students, and conduct research leading to publications or other significant contributions to the discipline. The position also requires a commitment to working with diverse students and contributing to Furman's goals of expanding access and opportunity. The teaching load is five courses per year, including introductory accounting and advanced courses in federal income taxation or managerial accounting.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. in accounting or a related discipline by August 1, 2027.
  • ABD candidates will be considered if the degree is conferred before August 1, 2027.
  • Ability to teach both introductory level courses in managerial/financial accounting and advanced courses, including either federal income taxation or managerial accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate accounting courses, including introductory financial/managerial accounting and advanced courses such as federal income taxation or managerial accounting.
  • Mentor and advise students.
  • Conduct original research leading to peer-reviewed publications or publication in outlets valued by active members of the profession, or contribute to the discipline in other significant ways.
  • Serve the department and university.
  • Work with students from diverse backgrounds and contribute to Furman’s commitment to expanding access and opportunity.
  • Develop high-impact engaged learning experiences for undergraduates, including directing research, mentoring, and directing students in course-related projects in the community.
