About The Position

The incumbent develops and delivers courses in the Carpentry and Renovation Techniques Program. Courses may be scheduled and delivered during the day or evening at the Owen Sound Campus. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: Delivering CART 1023 – Construction Site Practices, which focuses on industry health and safety practices, the safe use of cutting and welding tools, ladders and scaffolds, hoisting and rigging, and fall hazard recognition and control. Delivering CART1012 – Applied Carpentry Fundamentals, which involves applying and practicing program learning in the carpentry shop, learning to safely use hand tools, portable power tools, and stationary power tools, and selecting and employing appropriate materials and methods, with an emphasis on the Ontario Building Code through site layout, framing and forming, and a demolition project. The role also involves developing and delivering appropriate curriculum, incorporating a variety of teaching/learning strategies, evaluating student learning progress, participating in program and college activities, participating in program revision and renewal, and creating and maintaining a positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of experience within the construction industry
  • Computer literacy in MS Office Suite
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills
  • Commitment to life-long learning
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and to foster the same in students
  • Acceptable proof of education (degrees, credentials) from recognized post-secondary institutions and Provincial Apprenticeship Board, or confirmation of international equivalencies will be required as part of the selection process.

Nice To Haves

  • A Certificate of Qualifications (C of Q) for Carpentry is an asset
  • Teaching experience at the post secondary or within an adult learning environment is an asset
  • Experience in some or all of the following is an asset: curriculum development, a variety of delivery strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies
  • Teaching and Training Adults certification is an asset
  • The ability to teach in more than one subject / program area is an asset
