About The Position

The Professor, Electrical Apprenticeship and Electrical Techniques is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective, learning-centered environment for students through the design and delivery of curriculum within the school of Apprenticeship and Skilled Trades at George Brown. The professor will teach courses to students in the T167 Electrical Techniques certificate and 309A Construction and Maintenance Apprenticeship program, in addition to other, diplomas, certificate and apprenticeship level courses when required.

Requirements

  • A Certificate of Qualification in the Electrician: Construction and Maintenance (309A) trade and/or Industrial Electrician (442A) trade are required.
  • A Certificate of Apprenticeship in either Construction and Maintenance (309A) and/or Industrial Electrician (442A) are required.
  • Minimum of five (5) full-time years relevant industry experience as a Journeyperson in the construction field is required.
  • Experience in various electrical installations in Residential, Commercial and Industrial sectors is required.
  • A thorough knowledge of electrical theory and troubleshooting techniques, with proven ability to teach all Electrical Apprenticeship trade school curriculum topics in the classroom and lab setting will be required.
  • Knowledge and experience with EMT and Rigid Conduit pipe bending, all forms of Residential, Commercial and Industrial wiring methods, current materials, tools/equipment and industry practices.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge in, experience with interpreting and applying the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Thorough understanding of common electronic components, and electronic circuits.
  • Ability to set up and operate specialized and standard test equipment to diagnose, test and analyze the performance of electrical and electronic components and circuits.
  • Experience with electronics, instrumentation, building automation, PLC programming, variable frequency drives, and motor control is required.
  • Must have experience with advanced learning technologies, including online delivery (e.g., Bb or D2L).
  • Ability to convey conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience and learning needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior post-secondary teaching training and experience in adult instructions techniques, and curriculum design experience will be preferred.
  • Academic leadership experience in a post-secondary program is an asset.
  • Involvement in innovation and professional development related to teaching, use of technology, and student success.
