About The Position

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) is seeking candidates for a CORNEA FACULTY position that will involve patient care, teaching, and research. Activities will include full spectrum clinical and surgical care of cornea, cataract, and other anterior segment pathology, with opportunities for refractive surgery in a recently opened LASIK suite/refractive surgery center. Patient care is provided at local UW Health clinic locations and may include the William S. Middleton Memorial Veteran's Hospital. Teaching responsibilities will involve medical students, residents, and fellows. Research activities may include participation in clinical trials and/or translational research. The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members. Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor CHS, Visiting Associate or Visiting Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Requirements

  • Residency training in a U.S. Ophthalmology accredited program.
  • Completion of a US Ophthalmology residency and fellowship in Cornea by the start date of the position.
  • Wisconsin Medical License required by start date
  • Board-certified or board eligible in Board of Ophthalmology by start date.
  • MD or DO, or equivalent required.
  • Continuous eligibility to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, a foreign national authorized to work in the United States without the need of an employer sponsorship) on or before the effective date of appointment.
  • Proof of work authorization and eligibility to work must be provided if selected for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CT or CHS track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS or CT track.

Responsibilities

  • Patient care at UW Health facilities and potentially the William S. Middleton Memorial Veteran's Hospital.
  • Development and execution of patient care programs in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases (medical and surgical).
  • Clinical and surgical education of fellows, residents and medical students.
  • Development of a cornea, cataract, and anterior segment clinical/surgical practice, with opportunities for refractive surgery.
  • Participate in or initiate clinical/translational research in anterior segment diseases.
  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.
