About The Position

Tulane University School of Medicine is seeking an accomplished physician leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases within the John W. Deming Department of Medicine. The Division Chief will report to the Chair of the Department of Medicine and provide leadership across the Division’s clinical, research, and educational missions.

The Division has a strong history of excellence in infectious diseases and provides inpatient and outpatient care across multiple clinical sites, including East Jefferson General Hospital, University Medical Center New Orleans, Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System, and two Ryan White-funded HIV clinics. The Division also supports an ACGME-accredited Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program and a broad research portfolio with both local and global impact.

The Division benefits from extensive opportunities for collaboration across Tulane, including the Tulane National Primate Research Center, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and the Center for Translational Research in Infection and Inflammation. Tulane’s research infrastructure also includes advanced BSL-3 facilities supporting research in infectious diseases and emerging pathogens.

The successful candidate will build upon Tulane’s long-standing history in infectious diseases while helping guide the continued growth of the Division in clinical care, research, education, and community engagement.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree.
• Board certification in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in Louisiana.
• Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience in Infectious Diseases.
• Academic qualifications appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at Tulane University.
• Demonstrated record of leadership, research, scholarship, and academic achievement.
• Experience mentoring and developing faculty, trainees, and other healthcare professionals.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative leadership skills with the ability to work effectively across clinical and academic environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction for the Division and support faculty recruitment, development, retention, and growth.
• Advance high-quality inpatient and outpatient infectious diseases services and support continued growth across clinical sites.
• Strengthen the Division's research portfolio and foster collaboration across Tulane University and external partners.
• Support excellence in medical student, resident, and fellowship education and mentorship.
• Strengthen partnerships that support the health needs of New Orleans, the surrounding region, and the populations served by the Division.
• Continue Tulane's legacy of excellence in Infectious Diseases while helping guide the Division's future growth in clinical care, research, education, and community engagement.
