About The Position

Summary The Tutor is primarily responsible for facilitating student learning and helping students understand concepts or applications of course content. This position supports students and assists them in gaining effective study skills and maximizing their potential for their academic success. Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours a week and willing to work at both campus locations. Peoria and East Peoria Campus Must be able to tutor a minimum of 3 or more of the following subjects: Chemistry and Global Issues 113 Foundations of Chemistry | CHEM 115 Principles of Chemistry I | CHEM 120 Principles of Chemistry | CHEM 122 General Chemistry | CHEM 130 General Chemistry | CHEM 132 Organic Chemistry | CHEM 230 Compensation for the PT Professional Tutor is $17.50- $22.00 an hour.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher in Chemistry or related field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior enrollment and completion in the selected course.
  • Experience as a tutor, teacher, or instructor.
  • Experience with Academic Software applications.
  • Experience working in an online learning environment.
  • Experience working in higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tutoring instruction to students.
  • Provide overall academic support in assigned subject.
  • Professional, knowledgeable and patient at all times.
  • Create a positive learning atmosphere within the Academic Support Program.
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries with students.
  • Prepare supplemental materials specific to subject.
  • Perform related duties as required.
