About The Position

UPMC Presbyterian Adult Acute Care (8N) is seeking a Full-Time Professional Staff Nurse to join their Weekend Program. This program requires participants to work 48 weekends per year, totaling 24 hours per weekend (either two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts), between Friday at 3 p.m. and Monday at 7 a.m. The Medicine Units at UPMC Montefiore Hospital are central to high-acuity care, providing life-saving treatment to patients with complex conditions. Nurses on these units deliver ICU-level care in a supportive, high-performing team environment. Unit 8N is a 17-bed medical-surgical unit caring for patients with conditions such as chest pain/rule out MI, COPD, Pneumonia, diabetes complications, cellulitis, and sickle cell crisis. The nursing team actively participates in daily multidisciplinary patient rounds. 8 North is described as a fast-paced, demanding environment that relies on staff teamwork and commitment to values like family education, emotional support, and physician collaboration. It is considered a suitable environment for graduate nurses and those seeking to gain inpatient experience or expand clinical knowledge.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience required.
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS required within 12 months of beginning employment.
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients’ requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
