About The Position

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Casual Professional Staff Nurse to support the PACU/Recovery Room team. In this role, you’ll care for post-anesthesia patients, closely monitoring their recovery and ensuring they remain hemodynamically stable. You’ll manage pain control, assess readiness for transfer, and help transition patients smoothly to the next level of care—whether that’s Med/Surg, ICU, CVU, or discharge through Same Day Surgery. This position offers flexible, as-needed scheduling in a collaborative, patient-focused environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Prior ICU/PACU experience strongly preferred.

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation that supports communication across the care team and ensures continuity of care.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Educate patients and families on recovery expectations, discharge instructions, and ongoing care needs in a clear and supportive manner.
