About The Position

To deliver comprehensive, high-quality, trauma-informed nursing care and health education to youth at The William George Agency by the NYS Office of Professions’ RN scope of practice and Article 29-I VFCA Health Facility guidelines. This role ensures routine, chronic, and urgent health services are provided effectively to youth in care while promoting best practices in documentation, infection control, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration in a residential care setting.

Requirements

  • Current NYS Registered Nurse (RN) license (copy required upon hire)
  • Valid New York State Driver's License (copy required upon hire)
  • Yearly Physical (required within 1 month of hire)
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (American Red Cross or equivalent)

  • Must successfully complete all required background checks: NYS Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR), Multi-State Sex Offender Registry (SOR), NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) fingerprinting, NYS Justice Center Staff Exclusion List (SEL), NYS OMIG Medicaid Exclusion List, Out-of-state child abuse register inquiry of any state in which the person resided within the last five years (if applicable), NYS License Event Notification Service (LENS), Office of Inspector General (OIG), NYS Professions – Professional License Check
  • Must successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a courteous, respectful, and professional demeanor at all times when interacting with residents, internal staff, nursing and medical personnel, external healthcare providers, hospitals, parents, and other professionals involved in the coordination and delivery of resident medical care.
  • Conduct medical assessments, including 24-hour screenings, intake evaluations, and HIV risk assessments per regulatory guidelines
  • Conduct triage and provide first aid, blood draws, and manage chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes), and provide reproductive health education
  • Administer and reconcile prescribed medications per NYS and Article 29-I regulations using blister packs, strip packaging, EMAR, and tracking logs
  • Maintain compliance with immunization schedules and vaccine storage protocols (e.g., daily temperature logs, VIS documentation)
  • Document all services accurately and in a timely manner in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) (Welligent), including medical appointments, session notes, and medication administration.
  • Maintain compliance with recordkeeping, medical safety plans, clinic logs, and discharge/travel medication packaging
  • Collaborate with physicians, NP’s, behavioral clinicians, and residential staff to establish and monitor the youth’s treatment goals
  • Coordinate transport and accompany youth to on-/off-campus appointments as needed
  • Deliver trauma-informed education to youth on hygiene, chronic illness management, and safe health practices
  • Support staff education on OSHA, infection control, seizure protocols, and medication protocols as needed
  • Maintain clinic cleanliness, secure storage of medications, and supply inventory
  • Follow all protocols for off-campus referrals, incident follow-up, and post-op care
  • Participate in internal audits, quality improvement, and safety initiatives
  • Rotate on-call cell phone coverage to support after-hours needs
  • Record and report after-hours contacts per agency protocol
  • Support staff training related to medical procedures and medication protocols
  • Attend nursing, administrative, and agency-wide meetings as requested to support the needs of the clinic and the Agency
  • Assist in staff physical exams, including BP, Height, Weight, and BMI, and maintain written records for the medical clinic/personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Director, Nursing Supervisor, or Assistant Nursing Supervisor.
  • Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties by every safety standard, practice, and policy of The William George Agency.
  • Adhere to all rules, regulations, policies, and philosophy of The William George Agency and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
