About The Position

Lead the electrical engineering discipline for one of Australia's largest rail networks, shaping technical strategy, governance and assurance to ensure the safety, reliability and future sustainability of Sydney Trains' critical infrastructure. In this role, you'll: As Professional Head Electrical Engineering, you will provide enterprise-wide technical authority and professional leadership across Sydney Trains' safety-critical electrical engineering discipline, including AC Supply & Distribution, DC Traction and Power Systems Modelling. You will set strategic engineering direction and ensure the safety, integrity and performance of assets throughout their lifecycle. As the delegated discipline authority, you will govern engineering standards, assurance frameworks and technical publications, ensuring engineering activities comply with legislative, regulatory and accreditation requirements. You will champion engineering excellence, asset integrity and a strong safety culture across the organisation. You will provide independent, evidence-based advice to executive leadership, Transport for NSW and regulators on technical risk, asset performance, approvals, concessions and complex investigations. Your expertise will influence major asset investment, renewal and maintenance decisions across the rail network. Leading a highly specialised function, you will strengthen engineering capability, competency and authorisation frameworks, ensuring Sydney Trains continues to build a capable, future-focused engineering workforce while delivering safe, reliable and sustainable customer outcomes.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience within safety-critical rail or comparable regulated infrastructure environments.
  • Proven experience in engineering governance, technical authority, assurance or professional head leadership roles.
  • Deep knowledge of electrical infrastructure, asset lifecycle management and complex engineering systems.
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation, engineering standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide trusted advice to senior executives, regulators and key stakeholders.
  • Experience leading technical investigations, risk-based decision making and engineering assurance activities.

  • Eligibility for Chartered Engineer or Professional Registration status will be highly regarded.
