About The Position

Due to recent promotions, the City of Springfield's Department of Public Works is seeking qualified applicants for Professional Engineer (with option to underfill as Engineer III, Engineer II, and Engineer I) in the Traffic Engineering Division. Responsibilities for the Traffic Engineering position will include developing and analyzing planning studies such as traffic impact studies, traffic volume and speed studies, safety studies and crash data analysis, parking studies; designing and managing projects for traffic calming, sidewalks, and intersection improvements; and reviewing development plans for code compliance and access management. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering discipline
  • Four years of experience in engineering work (for Professional Engineer)
  • Engineering experience must be commensurate with assigned specialty area required for current vacancy
  • Must possess a Professional Engineer's license for Professional Engineer
  • Must possess MO license as issued by the Missouri State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers within six months of employment
  • Proof of United States Citizenship/Authorization to Work in the United States as established by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986 is a condition of employment
  • Pre-employment drug testing is required

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer III (Underfill option): Must possess an Engineering Intern (EI) certificate from a State Board of registration for Professional Engineers within probationary period; Master's Degree in Engineering may be substituted for the EI certification.
  • Engineer II (Underfill Option): Master's Degree in Engineering may be substituted for one year of the required work experience.
