About The Position

Off Leash K9 Training, LLC is hiring a Professional Dog Trainer in the Fairport/Rochester, New York area. The role involves obedience training, behavior modification, and helping dog owners build stronger relationships with their pets. No prior professional dog-training experience is required; comprehensive hands-on instruction and certification are provided.

Selected candidates must complete a 17-day intensive, hands-on certification program in Fredericksburg, Virginia, as well as additional hands-on training hours with shelter dogs. The role requires accommodating up to two client dogs at a time in the trainer’s home for Board & Train programs. Client dogs must be kept separate from personal pets and securely crated when unsupervised, in accordance with company safety policies.

This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity with performance-based compensation. Estimated annual earning potential is $30,000–$70,000+, depending on training assignments and services performed. Scheduling may include evenings and weekends. The position also involves travel to the Fairport training facility and other designated locations, client communication, and participation in promotional and community activities.

Requirements

• Reside in Fairport, Rochester, or surrounding communities.
• Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Own an iPhone for client communication, training videos, and progress updates.
• Be able to safely board up to two client dogs in the home and provide a suitable environment for housing and training them.
• Keep client dogs separate from personal pets and securely crate training dogs when unsupervised, in accordance with company safety policies.
• Be willing to accommodate training appointments during evenings and weekends.
• Be comfortable working with dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments.
• Have basic computer skills and familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
• Have excellent customer-service and communication skills.
• Be self-motivated, organized, dependable, and capable of managing responsibilities independently.
• Be willing and able to travel to Virginia, complete the 17-day certification program, and fulfill additional training requirements.
• Be willing to learn new techniques, receive feedback, and follow established training methods and company policies.

• Experience handling dogs or working in kennels, veterinary facilities, animal shelters, or other animal-related environments.

Responsibilities

• Train dogs of various breeds, sizes, ages, and temperaments.
• Teach basic and advanced obedience commands.
• Work with dogs experiencing behavioral challenges, including anxiety, reactivity, and aggression.
• Conduct private training lessons and teach owners how to reinforce their dogs’ training.
• Care for and train Board & Train dogs in the trainer’s home.
• Provide clients with regular training updates, including photos and videos.
• Travel to the Fairport training facility and other designated training locations.
• Maintain professional communication with clients.
• Create training videos and social media content showcasing client dogs’ progress.
• Participate in community events and promotional activities.
• Continue developing professional dog-training knowledge and skills.
