The Department of Nursing Education and Professional Development (NEPD) at Children’s National works in partnership with all departments to achieve the organization's mission and goals. The NEPD department promotes the nurse's professional development through a commitment to lifelong learning, skill acquisition, and competency attainment. The dimensions of NEPD programs include four comprehensive, inter-related, and integrated programs: Central Nursing Orientation, Academic Affiliates, Continuing Nurse Education- Provider Unit, and Transition to Practice Program- Nurse Residents. The Professional Development Specialist will collaborate with the Director of Professional Development to support the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing education and professional development. This role supports the functions of nursing professional development in advancing nursing practice and dimensions of professional development through knowledge and skill acquisition, competency validation, and lifelong learning. All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, CNMC Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. CNMC supports the development of RN relationships within the community, specifically those associated with the health and well-being of the community at large.
