The Professional Development Nurse (RN) for the Neuro Critical Care and Neuro Special Care Units is responsible for developing and implementing unit-based orientation programs, including nurse residency, experienced nurse orientation, and licensed nursing assistant orientation. This role involves evaluating program outcomes and updating curriculum based on quality metrics, accreditation, and regulatory requirements. The position also focuses on developing and implementing competency programs for both new and experienced nursing staff. The Nursing Education Center (NEC) aims to support the nursing strategic plan through programs based on adult learning theories and best practices, covering onboarding, clinical orientation, competence assessment, preceptor development, and ongoing professional development. The department structure supports the development of critical thinking, clinical reasoning, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Collaboration with subject matter experts and ancillary departments is key in creating educational programs and annual competence plans for various practice settings. Evidence-based concepts and programs related to patient safety and quality improvement are integrated into nursing education. The role supports the transition to professional practice through a nurse residency program, experiential learning activities including simulation, and preceptor development.
