About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nursing Professional Development Specialist, Critical Care. In this role, the successful candidate Assesses and analyzes learning needs for nursing staff throughout the Departments of Nursing; plans, implements and evaluates educational activities that support nursing care; participates in the development, supports implementation, and provides education and reinforcement of nursing and patient care standards, evidence based practice and nursing research; maintains clinical expertise in a specialty area; demonstrates and fosters collaborative relationships within the Departments of Nursing and other disciplines; participates in Departments of Nursing and hospital committees.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State
  • Master's degree in nursing education
  • Certification in Nursing Education required upon eligibility
  • Ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion to address patient/family satisfaction and quality indicators.
  • Evidence of excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, organization, critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership skills.
  • Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association
  • Three to five years of clinical experience in a specialty area, or combination of staff nurse/leadership experience in the specialty area.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with nurse manager to select new hires, mentors, preceptors and ensures that employees are appropriately on-boarded, oriented, educated, and evaluated. Supports clinical rotations and student nurses in partnership with school affiliations.
  • Evaluates the performance, and assesses practice, of designated personnel in a fair and transparent manner. Works collaboratively with clinical leadership to identify learning needs, provides learning opportunities and educational resources for staff in clinical area of responsibility.
  • Serve as role model and resource for staff. Functions as a respectful leader of the health care team; develops and manages employees through the promotion of professional growth and development, mentoring, appreciative coaching, and counseling, as appropriate, in alignment with the principles of a caring, fair, and professional work environment.
  • Ensures that education programs are executed according to established processes, guidelines, and standards of accrediting agencies such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the State Nurses Association.
  • Collaborates with patient care unit leadership to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies as pertains to staff education and competencies.
  • Identifies and addresses learning needs of nursing staff in assigned clinical areas and throughout the Departments of Nursing to promote and maintain competency.
  • Holds self and others accountable for efficiency and feasibility in the delivery of exemplary care.
  • Communicates with clarity and integrity to build trust with all stakeholders. Provides education and resources that facilitate age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and ethical care for patients.
  • Participates in the drafting of nursing and organizational policy, engaging front-line staff, and incorporating the precepts of shared governance.
  • Supports data collection in collaboration with the nurse manager and interprofessional team. Analyzes and utilizes data to drive practice changes that integrate quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity metrics to achieve excellence in patient and nursing outcomes.
  • Fosters high reliability concepts within the unit/organizational structure.
  • Fosters a culture of inquiry, innovation and transformation with a focus on the future. Participates in and fosters staff involvement in nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice efforts. Leads and supports developing of new insights to complex situations, innovative designs, and programs/processes.
