About The Position

The American Camp Association (ACA) is seeking a full-time remote Professional Development Manager for its western region. This role is responsible for planning and implementing conferences, workshops, and events to serve the more than 20,000 year-round and summer camps in the US that annually serve 26 million campers. The ACA is dedicated to empowering camps to foster quality experiences that promote belonging and growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in a related field or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with ACA (employee or volunteer) or relevant experience within a nonprofit.
  • Experience working in partnership with volunteers to plan and execute events, as a staff member or lead volunteer.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge and understanding of educational concepts.
  • Ability to regularly work within the ACA’s normal hours of operation (8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday) in the time zone of the primary team’s region. Individual work schedules may range from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm based on the time zone of the primary team’s region.
  • A commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

  • Preference for candidates living in our western region and within close proximity to an airport, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Western Region volunteer and staff team to create engaging, high-quality, in-person professional development events throughout the region.
  • Organize a professional development calendar that meets the needs of the association/local areas.
  • Assist with speaker selection and speaker agreements as needed per event.
  • Plan conferences, workshops, and other events, including sourcing sites, coordinating logistics, executing events, and completing post-event wrap-up.
  • Support the business development team in their work with vendors and facilities by providing sales leads, venue information, booth assignments, exhibit guides, floor management, and contractor coordination.
  • Secure and manage meeting logistics.
  • Stay abreast of the educational needs of the camp industry.
  • Cultivate, recruit, and train volunteers to participate in activities on behalf of the association.
  • Manage financial elements of professional development activities, including updating member records, receiving and processing revenue, and submitting requests for payment.
  • Protect the association’s data by using data-related best practices to ensure its integrity.
  • Ensure accuracy of all documentation.
  • Design accessible event-related documents, presentations, and web pages; may assist with designing online trainings and programs.
  • Work with team leaders, appropriate staff, and volunteers to create and adhere to realistic budgets, including forecasting expenses and income.
  • Advance the mission of the ACA by being an innovative, thoughtful, communicative, and productive member of the ACA, Inc. team.
