About The Position

The Professional Development Advisor position with the Bureau of Library Development offers a chance to inspire growth across libraries in the Commonwealth. This role helps strengthen learning and teamwork for staff and volunteers who support community access to library services. This role provides statewide guidance to improve professional development for library staff and volunteers, and strengthens programs that support learning across the Commonwealth.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Librarian 2 or Rare Books Librarian (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Four years of professional library experience
  • Three years of professional library experience, and a master’s degree in library science, library services, or a closely related field
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes two years of professional library experience
  • Meet the PA residency requirement
  • Able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

  • Develop statewide professional development programs and guide key projects that support library staff education
  • Collaborate with agencies and associations to advance training initiatives that align with Commonwealth priorities
  • Manage assigned grant projects by reviewing applications, supporting planning, and overseeing program budgets
  • Apply technology in strategic ways to expand learning opportunities for the library field
  • Maintain reliable communication with library personnel to understand training needs and offer guidance
