About The Position

Assist with instruction of Firearms Course for Law Enforcement Academy recruits. The start date of this position is August 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of MCOLES recognized police firearms instructor training course.
  • Minimum 5 years of law enforcement experience or relevant professional training and experience in firearms instruction.
  • Certified Michigan or National Police Firearms Instructor (NRA) or FBI Firearms Instructor.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, educational, socioeconomic, and life experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Report to Law Enforcement Academy Director.
  • Instruct students in firearms safety, handling and live fire on a firearms range for handguns, rifles and shotguns.
  • Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
  • Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
  • Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
