About The Position

This position is within the Division of Treasury, Bureau of Funds Management, in Tallahassee, Florida. The Professional Accountant will be responsible for independently analyzing, maintaining, and reconciling Treasury bank accounts monthly to Florida PALM Ledgers as a member of the Bank Reconciliations Team. This involves auditing and analyzing daily transactions and preparing monthly reconciliation reports. The role also includes answering inquiries related to State of Florida disbursement warrants, receiving warrant image requests, analyzing, researching, and resolving outstanding items, and assisting in the auditing and processing of affidavits for non-benefit of payments and misapplied payments. The position also requires preparing a monthly cash summary workbook for review by the Senior Professional Accountant and performing other tasks as directed within the Operations Section.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of professional accounting experience with the State of Florida or two (2) years of private professional accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
  • Two (2) years of experience maintaining and preparing accounting financial reports.
  • Two (2) years of experience in analyzing and resolving exception items, discrepancy items, and or correcting items in an accounting and/or banking environment.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of banking operations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Word and Excel applications.
  • Ability to prepare financial statements and reports.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of accounting records.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to an accounting system.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team structure.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to independently analyze and use problem solving techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Two (2) years of customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Independently analyze, maintain, and reconcile Treasury bank accounts monthly to Florida PALM Ledgers, as a member of the Bank Reconciliations Team, by auditing and analyzing daily transactions, and preparing monthly reconciliation reports
  • Answer inquiries related to the State of Florida disbursement warrants
  • Receive warrant image requests from State Agencies, the Division’s Public Records Coordinator, and the Administrative Assistant II in the Director’s Office
  • Analyze, research, and resolve outstanding items
