About The Position

Eaton's IS VEH VGNA division is currently seeking a Production Worker - 1st Shift in South Bend, IN. This position is part of the mobility group, forging parts for several other Eaton locations to use in transmissions. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • 1 to 3 years of Manufacturing Experience
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Ability to frequently move and/or lift forgings and dies during the forging and trimming press operations weighing from 3-29lbs.
  • Ability to stand or walk the entire shift.
  • Ability to hear and talk to other teammates while working. Ability to tolerate noise at a time weighted average of 97 decibels and occasional vibration due to use of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to visually detect quality defects during production.
  • Ability to tolerate extreme temperature changes, wetness and/or humidity during production operations.
  • Ability to tolerate fumes from forge press, forklifts, Tennant Sweeper, welding and cutting operations. Ability to tolerate occasional graphite/water mist from forging operations.
  • Repetitive work environment.
  • Ability to produce and meet required daily quotas.
  • Ability to work off shifts and dependability on a daily basis.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and neatly.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Measure parts accurately.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a machine operator.
  • Forklift experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a self-directed forge team within an advanced forge press operation and participate to continuously improve operations.
  • Perform equipment and tooling set-ups as specified by the Process Sheet Work Instructions.
  • Perform quality inspection including gauge usage, SPC tracking and blueprint reading. Visual inspection of forgings during production to detect any errors.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspection checks on equipment and forklifts.
  • Operate and make necessary adjustments to the forge press, trim press, automatic loader, automatic graphite spray system, heat induction system and all related controls. Operate spray lubricant as required.
  • Communicate with all other team members to assure quality product production and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in teams and/or taskforces that are directly related to plant operations and continuous improvement.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations.
  • Die set up duties including setting up dies to proper stack heights and setting up jobs to print requirements. Make any adjustments on loader, forge and trim press.
  • Have general knowledge of Wheelabrator operation and scales.
  • Ensure that steel billets are of the correct heat code and job #. and change appropriately.
  • Keep work area clean and safe. Assist in plant housekeeping and follow 5s standards.
  • Assist in training new team members.
  • Empty slug out chutes and dumpsters as required.
  • Cross train and continue to add skill blocks.
  • Other duties as assigned.
