About The Position

Performs ordinary hand welding operations to provide mechanical strength for diversified assemblies and products. The role requires careful blocking, clamping, or holding of parts in position to avoid distortion; operating welding machines with provided fixtures; and regulating current and voltage to achieve proper metal fusion. Work is performed from general instructions, with care, attentiveness, and experience to meet quality and quantity requirements.

Responsibilities

• Weld miscellaneous parts and subassemblies to meet specific part requirements.
• Observe fusion and finishing work and make the designated number of passes when heavier work requires more than one pass.
• Clean and chip welds as required.
• Perform ordinary tack welding or weld hub assemblies.
• Check work for conformance to specifications and ensure it is inspected before starting a production run.
• Alert the supervisor when welding materials need replenishment.
• Move materials to and from the department and within it using powered and/or manual material-handling equipment.
• Prepare materials for movement or storage when required, including banding, stenciling, stretch wrapping, and crating.
• Detect faulty operation or defective material.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area and equipment, and follow standard regulations.
