About The Position

The Management Liability Production Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and marketing accounts throughout approved states/territories. This role is a key part of the production underwriting capabilities of AMCOM. The Production Underwriter will own the results of their book of business and will engage in activities tied to risk selection and customer service. The role involves developing and underwriting a profitable portfolio, structuring tailor-made solutions, and monitoring premiums, costs, and claims ratios. The Production Underwriter will also engage with leadership to solve problems, assist in developing materials, and support business unit leadership with presentations and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 5+ years of management liability underwriting experience or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven sales results and client service experience.
  • Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, processes, and practice.
  • Extensive experience in the insurance industry ideally within an underwriting, broking, relationship management or sales role.
  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking skills with great attention to details.
  • Individually accountable.
  • Effective relationship management skills with customer focused approach.
  • Ability to develop tactical underwriting plan and execute on its implementation.
  • Active listening and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to work independently for significant periods of time.
  • Strong business development and communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office including Excel skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and prioritize to meet sales target.
  • Willingness & ability to travel for agency visits, industry functions, training and seminars.
  • Problem solving focused, self-motivated, flexible and enthusiastic.

Responsibilities

  • Owns the results of their book of business and will be compensated on annual and long-term profitability.
  • Maintains balance between distribution and risk selection to drive profitable growth.
  • Understands how their book fits into the broader portfolio strategy.
  • Has agent/broker relationships.
  • Engages in activities to generate submissions.
  • Maintains and leads the relationship with their assigned agents.
  • Engages in activities to close accounts.
  • Works with key internal stakeholders to develop and maintain product-specific business development plans.
  • Leads in the education of the broker market on the products.
  • Raises the profile of AMCOM s within the broker community.
  • Tracks metrics around broker engagements.
  • Ensures we remain front of mind of brokers by planning and engaging in regular virtual/face-to-face meetings.
  • Acts as a contact point for broker queries and product education.
  • Engages in appropriate communication via social media.
  • Develops and underwrites a profitable portfolio in support of business plans.
  • Structures tailor-made solutions by considering the team underwriting parameters and underwriting exposures.
  • Leverages underwriting knowledge and experience to win new business and retain existing.
  • Monitors premiums, costs and claims ratios per contract and takes corrective measures if necessary.
  • Evaluates appropriate risk premium by considering the risk costs, reinsurance cessions, capital exposure as well as the underwriting and general administration costs.
  • Complies with underwriting control standards for business written through delegated authority.
  • Engages with all levels of leadership to solve problems.
  • Assists in development of internal and external materials.
  • Supports business unit leadership with presentations and special projects.
  • Engages in continuing education to maintain necessary credentials.
