About The Position

Perfetti Van Melle, a global leader in confectionery and chewing gum manufacturing, is seeking an enthusiastic Production Technician to join their team. This role is integral to the manufacturing process, focusing on operating and maintaining packaging equipment within an Integrated Work Systems (IWS) framework. IWS is a continuous improvement methodology that emphasizes standard processes, employee ownership, problem-solving, and skill development to enhance team capability and equipment ownership. The technician will be responsible for ensuring efficient and safe operation of machinery, maintaining product quality, performing data entry, and upholding safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Previous manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to work overtime hours as needed to meet customer demands.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem analysis skills.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, uniform, hairnet, beard net, and mask when required.
  • Ability to work in dusty conditions and use breathing protection devices as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Ability to talk, hear, and smell.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally push/pull 350-pound carts with wheels.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Flexibility in learning and working in other job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor all packaging equipment efficiently and safely to maintain product flow.
  • Perform package integrity and quality checks, including metal detection, seal integrity, code date verification, and product weight/case counts.
  • Monitor and maintain correct product and case weights.
  • Handle scrap and waste from machines as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot equipment to ensure continuous operation.
  • Perform data entry into the computer.
  • Work in a safe and responsible manner, exercising caution to prevent accidents, injuries, or equipment damage.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, including participation in shift hand-offs and weekly shutdown/sanitation processes.
  • Operate floor scrubbers and other cleaning devices.
  • Adhere to all safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) policies and promote safe work practices.
  • Notify maintenance or supervisor when line or equipment issues arise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
