About The Position

The Production Technician III is skilled in performing tasks involved in the production of the company’s PHA-based thermoplastic material, and is required to have detailed knowledge of the production methods required for all products produced in their respective areas. This position reports to the Shift Lead and is responsible for setting up machinery, operating machinery, cleaning machinery, ensuring that the material meets the company’s established quality standards, and training other production technicians. The position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic chemical and biological safety procedures.
  • Highly skilled in equipment set up, machine operating, and CIP cleaning.
  • Knowledge and ability to explain company policies and procedures.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively.
  • Leadership: A willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
  • Dependability: Being reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.
  • Teamwork: Provides assistance to others when they need it.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted
  • 5 or more years in a manufacturing environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Must be able to learn to operate machinery systems safely
  • Able to meet schedule requirements.
  • Must be USP, DSP, extrusion, and injection molding certified
  • Taken and passed a manufacturing or chemical safety class

  • Forklift and boom lift certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Shift Lead in the setup, operation, and monitoring of the USP, DSP, extrusion machine, and injection molding machine.
  • Run and monitor Newlight's USP and DSP processes from start to finish, assisting and coaching other technicians.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor the extrusion and injection molding equipment.
  • Fill in for the Shift Lead during planned or unplanned absences.
  • Investigate process nonconformances and identify manufacturing and quality deficiencies.
  • Perform inspections and safety checks on equipment and work areas to ensure compliance with 6S protocols and company safety standards.
  • Follow safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow batch records, SOPs, and process set points to prepare, measure, mix, and load materials into reactors, tanks, and other production equipment.
  • Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain production equipment, including centrifuges, filters, dryers, pumps, probes, and other process equipment.
  • Use the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) to monitor and adjust process parameters, including temperature, pressure, agitation, cooling, and heating, to maintain product quality and process efficiency.
  • Perform in-process testing using laboratory instruments to verify product quality and compliance with specifications.
  • Accurately complete batch records, production logs, machine logs, and test documentation.
  • Perform Clean-in-Place (CIP) procedures and maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, safe, and production-ready condition.
  • Communicate and coordinate with operators, supervisors, engineers, maintenance, and Quality personnel to support safe and efficient production operations.
  • Package products and equipment for storage or shipment.
