About The Position

The primary function of this job is the safe operation and maintenance of Airgas Merchant Gas (Air Liquide) production facilities. The Production Technician is responsible for maintaining plant production, operating efficiency, regulatory compliance, and safety. Requirements

  • The minimum requirement for this position is a Fourth (4th) - Class Power Engineer ABSA ticket.
  • 2-5 years related experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in plant Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens and/or control stations.
  • Knowledgeable in the maintenance work order process.
  • Ability to implement site Emergency Action Plan.
  • Ability to operate the plant (including remote facilities) in steady state/normal operation and initiate action in the event of an emergency or unusual conditions.
  • Ability to monitor, understand and explain facility Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)
  • Ability to identify areas of improvements and take action to correct out-of-spec facility KPI's
  • Ability to operate a back-up system (if applicable), without assistance.
  • Ability to understand plant interlock schedules including what triggers interlocks and shutdowns, and what resulting actions occur.
  • Ability to communicate with both written and spoken English at the 12th grade level.
  • Demonstrates detailed understanding of Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID’s) and draws plant process schematic from memory.
  • Can read basic electrical one-line diagrams.
  • Proficient in computer standard software (Microsoft and Google)
  • Must be mechanically and/or instrumentation inclined.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training is preferred in a chemical plant operations with refrigeration, compressors, water treatment, absorption beds and desiccant dryers, analyzers, and other process equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates in depth understanding of plant processes.
  • Exhibits an understanding of customer requirements, operational goals and demands, plant process optimization, and critical process loops.
  • Ability to locate all equipment on the Process and Instrumentation diagrams in the field
  • Detailed understanding of P&IDs and can draw plant process schematic from memory
  • Capable of performing plant rounds and is able to explain the impact of each item on the inspection checklist
  • Can startup and perform a controlled shutdown of the plant
  • Ability to understand plant Interlock Schedule including what triggers Interlocks and Shutdowns
  • Alarm resolution and troubleshooting subsystems for root cause of abnormal situations
  • Able to perform troubleshooting on valves and instrumentation, use of a multi-meter and a 4-20 signal generator
  • Able to trouble shoot rotating machines and/or instrumentation
  • Monitors, understands and can explain Facility KPI's
  • Completes complex safe-work permitting and LOTO and lead pre-job briefing.
  • Train new Technicians
  • Ability to use and calibrate analyzers
  • Trained and knowledgeable in the work order process
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance activities, and maintain local spare parts inventory
  • Conduct regular product quality checks and analyze samples to ensure they meet specified standards.
  • Make adjustments to processes as needed to maintain product purity and consistency
  • Perform basic plant housekeeping activities
  • All other duties, as assigned
  • This role places a strong emphasis on demonstrated good communication and cooperation with peers, management, support personnel and other departments.
  • This role includes a commitment to the strict adherence to company policies, safety guidelines, and procedural standards, as well as instilling safety in others by being safety minded and modeling good safety practices as well as compliance to Qualification and Training program in company electronic training systems.
  • Completion of the Airgas/Air Liquide Safety Pledge and being familiar with the requirements and completing introductory Health and Safety (HSES) training.
