Production Technician - Sort Farm Operator
About The Position
The Sort Farm Operator is responsible for efficiently organizing and moving glass from the Cutting department to the IG Lines. This role involves operating high-tech glass fabrication equipment, maintaining communication with management and team members, and utilizing various software applications. The operator will transport racks using a rider pallet jack, perform handloads, and occasionally remove faulty glass. They will examine predicting variables and software to set up instruments for sorting glass, and maintain continuous communication with various departments to ensure proper schedules are completed. The role requires the ability to multitask effectively, safely operate a RICO Power Industrial Truck, inspect racks, and assist in AGV operations. Housekeeping tasks in the workspace are also a responsibility, along with assisting the team in achieving departmental objectives. The position requires strong organizational and problem-solving skills, effective communication, and may involve overtime, different shifts, and additional tasks as needed.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience utilizing power equipment.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Consistent work history in glass manufacturing or warehouse setting preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate experience using strategic thinking or analytical skills.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Responsibilities
- Efficiently organize and move glass from the Cutting department to the IG Lines.
- Operate High Tech Glass Fabrication Equipment.
- Ensure open communication with the manager and team by ensuring radio remains on while working on the plant floor.
- Utilize and acquire knowledge of various software applications.
- Transport racks using rider pallet jack when necessary.
- Perform handloads by manually loading and moving glass when necessary.
- Occasionally remove faulty glass from racks.
- Examine several predicting variables and software, then set up the instruments required to sort the glass.
- Maintain continuous communication with various departments to ensure proper schedules are completed.
- Ability to multitask to ensure that glass is sorted effectively.
- Safely operate the RICO Power Industrial Truck when needed.
- Inspect empty and loaded racks properly.
- Assist in AGV operations to facilitate the needs of Sort Farms, Cut tables, and furnaces when necessary.
- Ensure AGV’s are performing at an optimal level, communicate to various departments for downtime associated with AGV’s.
- Assist farm operators in the movement of racks throughout the plant as needed.
- Perform housekeeping tasks in the workspace to maintain a clean work area.
- Assist the team, leads, and management in achieving departmental objectives.
- May be required to work overtime, different shifts, and perform additional tasks to meet company needs and deadlines.
- Requires regular in-person attendance.
