Production Systems Engineering Intern

Meta•Sunnyvale, CA
•$6,813 - $11,880•Onsite

About The Position

This 12-week summer 2027 internship is based onsite in Menlo Park, California, on Meta's Hardware Design and Release to Production team within the Infrastructure organization. The team supports Meta-designed servers throughout their service life in data centers, including compute, database, storage, GPU, and AI accelerator systems. When servers fail, the team investigates the causes and implements durable fixes. Engineers specialize in areas such as hardware root cause analysis, debugging and triage automation, hardware diagnostics, or datasets and pipelines for early anomaly detection. The intern's project will focus on one of these areas, with responsibility for taking it from design through rollout.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with an expected graduation date after the internship.
  • Programming experience in Python.
  • Coursework or project experience in distributed systems, computer networks, or computer architecture.
  • Experience working in a Linux environment.
  • Available to work onsite in Menlo Park for a 12-week internship in summer 2027.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment by the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
  • Intent to return to a full-time degree program after completing the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience debugging hardware or low-level software, such as firmware, drivers, or the Linux kernel.
  • Familiarity with server architecture, including CPUs, GPUs, memory, storage, and interconnects such as PCIe or NVLink.
  • Experience building tools to automate debugging, monitoring, or operations work, including personal or class projects.
  • Experience analyzing large datasets or system telemetry with SQL or Python data tools.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how Meta's servers are designed, including component functions and how components connect.
  • Become familiar with internal systems used to provision servers, run health checks, and remediate faults.
  • Investigate failures on production servers and trace them to a root cause.
  • Build software that helps the team identify and fix hardware failures faster, such as triage automation, hardware diagnostics, or anomaly-detection pipelines.
  • Own a project from design to rollout by working with its users, documenting it, and presenting results to the team.
