Meta's Edge compute fleet includes around 162,000 servers across more than 600 locations worldwide. The fleet runs outside Meta's own data centers, in Edge PoPs that terminate user connections and in ISP and cell-service-provider locations that provide caching for partner networks. The Edge Hardware team partners with the Traffic organization, which owns this footprint. The team contributes to hardware selection and qualification, qualifies firmware across components, investigates failures in the deployed fleet, and defines detection and remediation tooling to keep the fleet healthy. Because this hardware is directly in the user's path, undetected hardware faults can cause user-visible availability problems. The Production Systems Engineer will set technical direction for areas of the Edge platform, mentor engineers, and lead multi-quarter initiatives that reshape how the fleet is sustained. The role will help lead the transition from a single server vendor to multiple vendors, represent Edge hardware in architecture discussions with Traffic, define firmware qualification strategy across current and future OEMs and platform generations, and drive technical workstreams across HDRTP (Hardware Design & RTP), Traffic, and OEM engineering teams. The engineer will work day to day with a concurrently hired engineer and the Dublin team that currently owns the area.
