Production Supervisor I or II
About The Position
Under the general direction of the Production Superintendent, this role involves supervising union personnel to ensure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the Rosebud Mine/Facilities. The supervisor will be responsible for implementing an effective safety program, conducting safety meetings, ensuring safety training, and monitoring work areas for compliance with MSHA and company safety rules. This role also includes responding to accidents, providing first aid, and conducting investigations. The supervisor will manage assigned personnel, including duty assignments, performance evaluations, and training. They will ensure compliance with company policies and the union bargaining agreement, coordinate work activities to implement mine/maintenance plans, and oversee the safe and productive utilization of equipment. Additionally, the supervisor will ensure effective coal quality control, coordinate mine/facilities activities to maximize equipment availability, and manage preventive and scheduled maintenance. They will analyze operational/maintenance requirements, adjust priorities, communicate work status, and prepare or review reports.
Requirements
- Five years’ experience in mining or a related industry or a B.S. degree in Civil, Mechanical or Mining Engineering.
- Previous experience in supervising and directing the work of others.
- Demonstrated knowledge of operation and maintenance functions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental and safety regulations.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact with other supervisors, professionals, representatives and departmental staff from within and outside the company.
- Possess or obtain a State of Montana Mine Foreman Certificate within the first 90-days.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license through the duration of employment.
- Meet all insurability requirements as specified by Westmoreland’s policies or Driver’s insurance provider.
Responsibilities
- Supervise union personnel ensuring operation/maintenance of the Rosebud Mine/Facilities complies with authorized practices and procedures.
- Ensure production/maintenance requirements are accomplished in a safe and efficient manner.
- Implement an effective safety program, conducting safety meetings and ensuring safety task training.
- Monitor and inspect work areas to assure safety and compliance with MSHA and company safety rules, correcting unsafe conditions.
- Respond to accidents, provide first aid, investigation, and root cause analysis.
- Supervise all assigned personnel, including assignment of duties, performance evaluation, training, and recommendation for training.
- Administer activities to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and the union bargaining unit agreement.
- Coordinate and direct work activities to effectively implement mine/maintenance plans.
- Ensure safe productive utilization of all equipment assigned on shift.
- Ensure effective coal quality control procedures are used.
- Coordinate safe mine/facilities activities to maximize equipment availability and provide for preventive and scheduled maintenance.
- Analyze operational/maintenance requirements and adjust priorities as required.
- Communicate status of work activities as needed with the department manager or other departments.
- Prepare or review reports as required to evaluate and document activities.
