About The Position

This role involves operating equipment safely and efficiently, monitoring and adjusting production parameters, and ensuring product quality. The Production Specialist will be responsible for mixing raw materials, maintaining the prime line and humidification areas, and performing quality tests. Communication with operators, management, and maintenance is crucial for smooth operations and problem resolution. The position also requires adherence to strict safety protocols and the ability to learn other roles within the department for coverage. Additionally, the role may involve operating a forklift and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

Wear hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel toe footwear at all times.
Stay aware of the job at hand and be alert for slippery floors.
Keep work area clean and free of debris.
Long hair must be tied back above collar.
Loose clothing is not allowed on plant floor including but not limited to: Dangling Pant Legs, Neck Ties, Long or Dangling Belts, and Hooded Sweatshirts.
No jewelry is allowed including but not limited to: Rings, Watches, and Necklaces.
Use proper lifting techniques.
Watch for forklift traffic.
Maintain three points of contact and use caution when climbing stairs and ladders.
Only use an approved low pressure device to remove fiber and sawdust from clothing.
Lockout/Tagout all sources before working on equipment.
Avoid contact with hot steam pipes.
Comply with all safety training including but not limited to: Do not operate any equipment or tools that have missing guards or safety devices, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Ergonomics, Forklift, PPE, Emergency Preparedness, Hazard Communication, Electrical Safety and Blood-borne Pathogen Prevention.
Use ladders going in and out of paint kitchens.
Discuss all non-routine tasks with your manager prior to start.
Wear gloves when handling skins.
Wear fall protection when working at unguarded heights above six feet or when traveling and/or operating any high lift equipment.
Face shield and safety glasses are required when using or within 10 feet of any of the following: wire wheels, power wire brush, cut off wheel, portable grinder, bench grinder.
Wear gloves when priming skins.
Stay off of storage conveyors unless off and locked out.
Keep floors clean and dry.
Get help straightening loads.
Keep all scissor lift guards in place and do not place any body parts on or under lifts.
Do not approach nip points unless equipment is off and locked out.
Wear gloves and white suits when performing booth cleanups.
Never clean trough unless booth chains and paint supply are off and locked out.
Keep booth work surfaces clean and dry to avoid slip hazards.
Use caution when scraping trough.
Never scrape towards any body part.
Stay off scissors lift and conveyor unless turned off and locked out when adjusting infeed suction cups.
Lock out feeder prior to adjusting equipment.
Wear gloves and dust mask when cleaning paint booth air filters.
Be sure mask fits correctly.
Do not perform welding or cutting in the vicinity when cleaning paint booth air filters.
Lockout paint supply prior to beginning work when cleaning paint tips & paint filters.
Never lean into or over paint chains to clean tips.
Wear latex gloves and safety glasses when changing paint pumps.
Lockout hydraulic motor and paint bleed off pump pressure before beginning work.
Follow Jeld-Wen lockout procedures.
Get help or extra equipment to lift the pump.
Use properly sized wrenches for the task.
Carefully monitor paint use tote and do not over fill.
Keep hands and body parts clear of paint mixer.
Wear latex gloves and safety glasses when cleaning humidification spray tips.
Lockout supply water and bleed off pressure before beginning work.
Never lean over conveyor to clean tips.
Use properly sized wrenches for the task.
When doing machine maintenance that is unfamiliar, check with the task supervisor to gain clear and complete understanding of all procedures and instructions involved.
Do not attempt to do work for which you have not been trained.
Make certain the starter is not energized by turning associated equipment off with the push button or other style of switch before turning the disconnect off at the panel when resetting breakers and over loads on starters.
Make certain the door is latched and never stand in front of the cabinet when it is being energized.
Never open an electrical panel unless wearing the appropriate arch flash gear and PPE.
Use backstops when available when moving loads of door skins or supplies with a forklift.
Don’t exceed lift capacity of the forklift.
Use your horn to warn pedestrians of forklift traffic, slow down at blind spots.
Travel with empty forks as close to the floor as possible.
Use absorbent to dry wet surfaces.
Carry loads as close to the floor as possible.
Carry loads back on the forks.
Do not carry riders.
Use caution when working in congested areas.
Follow all JELD-WEN lift truck procedures.
Wear your seat belt when operating a forklift.
Analyze the situation when working on elevated structures.
Wear fall protection when working at unguarded heights above six feet or when traveling and/or operating any high lift equipment.
Follow lockout procedures, confined space procedures, and wear dust masks when cleaning oven filters.

Nice To Haves

Know and understand all duties and responsibilities of Prime Line Operator.
Will be required to learn and understand other jobs in the department for coverage of short periods of time, including breaks, lunch and vacation.

Responsibilities

Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Mix raw materials and monitor application areas of primer and humidification water.
Assist operator to monitor all operations and parameters of the prime line and take steps to resolve any irregularities while insuring maximum run time.
Optimize material usage and notify operator of line needs.
Assure proper relief before departing – Overtime may be required.
Perform booth clean ups in a safe and efficient manner.
Perform, interpret, and act on assigned quality tests/data.
Participate in SQDCI.
Understand, associate, and apply line parameters and grading specifications to operational decisions.
Perform system clean-up tasks as required.
Maintain housekeeping along prime line, paint kitchen, humidification deck, and quality testing areas.
Communicate with prime line operator and packager throughout the shift regarding skin quality and process conditions.
Communicate with on coming and off going personnel to ensure continuity between shifts.
Communicate effectively with management regarding issues, adjustments, and changes.
Notify management of supply issues, maintenance needs, hazards, and accidents/injuries.
Maintain complete and accurate written and/or electronic records and data.
Be familiar with components, sub-systems, support systems, and terminology of the equipment.
Make rounds as directed, be watchful for worn or malfunctioning equipment, and notify maintenance and management.
Perform/assist in maintenance and preventive maintenance tasks to minimize downtime.
Know and understand all duties and responsibilities of Prime Line Operator.

Operate a forklift and other equipment as necessary.
Abide by all company policies and procedures.
