About The Position

The Production Scheduler/Planner in Grand Rapids, Michigan, communicates business unit needs to supplier partners to maximize business unit performance and key measurables while building strong supplier relationships and capitalizing on our suppliers' capabilities in an exemplary manner according to the company quality policies. Pridgeon and Clay is one of the largest independent, value-added manufacturers and suppliers of automotive stamped and fine-blanked components in the United States, founded in 1948.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in business (or a related field)
  • Experience with scheduling production or material planning in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of a Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system
  • Strong computer proficiency (including Windows, Outlook, Excel)
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to drive projects to completion
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • High degree of self-motivation
  • An excellent work record, including attendance

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with scheduling production or material planning in a metal stamping company
  • Experience using Kanban systems
  • Experience with quality processes including Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and problem-solving systems (8D, 5Why)

Responsibilities

  • Issue material/component releases against blanket orders to meet inventory and scheduling needs, appropriately contributing to goal of 99% on-time delivery.
  • Develop and maintain Kanban pull system with our supplier partners.
  • Use the electronic Kanban system to examine requirements, schedule work for the department, maintain QAD line schedules, and monitor production to achieve 100% customer order fill and finished goods inventory targets.
  • Expedite material/components as required to support the Kanban system.
  • Handle disposition of rejected material/components and issue debit memos for vendor claims.
  • Coordinate material/components phase in and phase out programs.
  • Coordinates and tracks material/components to schedule changes, shortages, and potential use of alternative and/or obsolete material, establishing action plans as required.
  • Manage inventory levels to meet defined targets.
  • Track product ramp up and build out schedules including finished goods, works in progress, and raw steel.
  • Participate in the quarterly review of pull demand and recommends lot run sizes and safety stock quantities for each part within the appropriate business unit.
  • Assist in special projects (within and outside of the plant), as deemed necessary by management.
  • Participate in advanced level product quality planning (APQP) process to support sample production part approval process (PPAP) dates.
  • Order materials/components on time to meet the time lines for PPAP submissions, appropriately contributing to goal of 100% on-time PPAP submissions.
  • Coordinate PPAP's to ensure all due dates are met, including tracking tool status, material status, and fixture status weekly, and provide weekly reviews to the management.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure the quality of material/components to contribute to unit cost of quality goal.
  • Establish improvement objectives and opportunities for supplier partners, and work with them, as needed, to achieve results.
  • Monitor production and communicates needs to Team Leaders and managers to identify constrained work centers and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Participate in, and support, lean initiatives, continuous improvement, and problem-solving activities, (including e-Kanban and cost savings throughout the company).
  • Communicate with customer service, as needed, to prioritize line schedule to accommodate hanging customer requirements.
  • Recommend weekly overtime and manpower changes needed to meet customer requirements.
  • Effectively communicate with co-workers and management personnel to enhance teamwork and communication initiatives.
  • Provide necessary, accurate, and timely feedback of all pertinent information to co-workers and management.
  • Consistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits, working the hours necessary to perform the job.
