About The Position

Gear Wash, a full-service verified Independent Service Provider and subsidiary of Fire-Dex, provides advanced cleaning, inspection, repair, alteration, and customization services for first-responder PPE throughout the United States. The Production Repair Associate repairs and alters firefighter uniforms and protective gear, including turnout gear, helping maintain their safety, functionality, and appearance. The role requires attention to quality, precision, and productivity while meeting safety standards and department specifications. Associates use industrial sewing equipment and other tools, keep repair records, coordinate workflow with department staff, and maintain a safe, organized workspace. The job is based at 12819 Marquardt Ave., Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Proven experience in garment repair, tailoring, or industrial sewing.
Great manual dexterity.
Ability to read and interpret repair instructions, measurements, and specifications using math skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship and following safety standards.
Ability to prioritize and multitask, remain productive through redirections and interruptions, and respond to organizational needs.
Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a solution-focused mindset.
Self-motivation and a desire to work hard to meet goals.
Open and effective communication with coworkers and supervisors.
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

Nice To Haves

Vocational training in sewing or textiles.
Experience repairing protective gear.
Familiarity with heavy-duty fabrics and materials such as Kevlar or Nomex.

Responsibilities

Perform repairs and alterations on firefighter uniforms, including turnout gear.
Inspect garments for damage or wear and determine appropriate repair methods.
Operate industrial sewing machines and other tools to stitch, patch, hem, and reinforce garments.
Ensure repairs meet safety standards and department specifications.
Maintain accurate records of completed repairs and alterations.
Collaborate with department staff to prioritize urgent repairs and manage workflow.
May assist with inventory management of uniforms and repair supplies.
Assist with other duties and responsibilities as needed to support the business.
Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area.
