About The Position

This role supports the development and qualification of manufacturing processes for a new advanced hardware program at Blue Origin. This is a greenfield environment with opportunity to help stand up the entire operation from equipment selection through process qualification and rate production readiness. This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Requirements

Minimum of a B.S. in engineering or equivalent STEM degree with 6+ Years of relevant experience.
Quality assurance experience in production environment. Aerospace, space launch, military/commercial aviation preferred
Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9001 Quality Management System and/or related quality systems and programs
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

Background in component machining or similar rotating hardware with tight tolerances and complex geometries.
Proficient in the fundamentals of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
Precision Measurement Science fundamentals
Experience with in-process probing, on-machine measurement, and adaptive machining techniques
Quality performance measurement analysis capabilities
RCCA/CAPA fundamentals
Quality Management System audit experience.
Lean Six Sigma Green, Black Belt, or comparable certification
Customer focused with a proven track record to work cooperatively with teams of different skills across large geographic distances

Responsibilities

Establish, implement, maintain, and enforce quality system processes that support products in development and production environments
Measure, analyze, and improve quality system performance consistent with organization quality goals
Participate in engineering design reviews (DFx) and make recommendations to improve the quality and manufacturability of new designs
Define and execute process validation protocols for new and changed manufacturing processes
Review and approve special process certifications (welding, plating, heat treatment, adhesive bonding, etc.)
Select gages and measurement equipment appropriate to product tolerances; validate selections using Precision-to-Tolerance (P/T) ratio analysis
Plan and execute Measurement System Analysis (MSA), including Gage R&R studies, to quantify measurement uncertainty
Conduct process capability studies (Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk) and recommend process or tolerance adjustments based on results.
Design and implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts with appropriate control limits and reaction plans.
Develop acceptance sampling plans (ANSI/ASQ Z1.4, C=0) based on risk and lot size; support Design of Experiments (DOE) for process optimization
Review and approve manufacturing build documents including work orders and nonconformance records.
Provide quality assurance domain expertise to inspection, manufacturing, and test for the Manufacturing team
Serve as disposition authority for nonconforming material
Lead root cause investigations using structured methodologies (8D, 5-Why, fishbone/Ishikawa, fault tree analysis)
Develop and verify effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurrence
Analyze cost-of-poor-quality (COPQ) data to identify high-impact improvement opportunities
Lead scrap and rework reduction projects; drive measurable yield improvements
Support lean and Six Sigma initiatives with data analysis and statistical expertise
Recommend and improve initiatives and/or changes that will improve product and system quality.
Perform periodic audits of the application of our quality system in accordance with AS9100/ISO9001
Collaborate with internal and external customers on quality related concerns; develop and present training materials to build quality awareness.
