About The Position

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia, with more than 25,000 employees. It is the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. The diverse and innovative team collaborates at the forefront of technology, manufacturing, and integration of naval ships. The Production Planner 3 role involves planning the sequence of fabrication, assembly, installation, and other manufacturing operations for specific product portions to guide production workers. This includes planning detailed operations from blueprints, engineering orders, change notices, and other engineering releases. The role also requires determining tooling needs, making recommendations for tool design and planning, preparing shop work orders for materials and product processing, and coordinating with schedulers to ensure processing according to specifications and time requirements. Maintaining progress reports, schedules, and related records is also part of the job.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree).
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree).
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree).
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree).

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred working knowledge of UT.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a minimum of a confidential DoD security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Plans sequence of fabrication, assembly, installation, and other manufacturing operations relating to specific portion of the product for guidance of production workers.
  • Plans detail operations from blueprints, engineering orders, change notices, and other engineering releases.
  • Determines the need for tooling and makes recommendations for the design and planning of required tools.
  • Prepares shop work orders for materials and product processing.
  • Coordinates with schedulers to ensure that items are being processed according to specifications and time requirements.
  • Maintains progress reports, schedules, and other related records.
