About The Position

Spartech is seeking Production Operators to join their team in Manitowoc, WI. This role is an advanced-level position within the manufacturing area, primarily responsible for performing material handling utilizing a forklift, weigh-up, and/or packaging duties. The operator will ensure the highest quality product at the lowest possible cost, meeting customer specifications and delivery requirements. The position includes operating extrusion production lines, automated material handling, and Banbury mixers. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Above average math and reading skills.
  • Ability to complete paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Good hand/eye coordination and good vision.
  • Self-starter and team oriented.
  • Conscious of all safety aspects affecting the manufacturing operations.
  • Direct and coach individuals as part of the backup operator duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified forklift driver.
  • Competency in plant operator positions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform material handling utilizing forklift, weigh-up, and/or packaging duties.
  • Ensure the highest quality product at the lowest possible cost and meets customer specifications and delivery requirements.
  • Progress through the operator training program.
  • Operate extrusion production lines and/or automated material handling and Banbury mixer.
  • Utilize safe work habits and maintain a safe workplace.
  • Assist operator in unloading winder.
  • Assist operator during change overs.
  • Inspect finished rolls, vacuum if dust is visible and inspect each roll for non-conforming characteristics (e.g., angel hair, loose rolls, roll weave or bad cuts).
  • Read and understand shop orders.
  • Communicate with operator and shift lead.
  • Perform cleaning task of equipment and plant.
  • Stage rolls and other packaging items needed for production.
  • Maintain inventory moves into the MIS in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Remove roll, weigh, and properly package material from the winder/stacker and move to the designated area in the warehouse.
  • Record daily total down time with reason codes.
  • Operate forklifts as required (Change gas cylinders and/or do general maintenance as required).
  • Work a full schedule workweek and fulfill overtime requirements as needed.
  • Perform SQC and quality testing, also responsible to cross check all paperwork and material labeling.
  • Cut cores/ cardboard per size stated on work order.
  • Receive any additional direction from operator.
  • Train other employees (may be required).
  • Participate in Kaizen and lean events (active participant).
  • Perform duties not specifically listed above, as deemed necessary to support the business.
